Description

This Birch Bark basket was hand-crafted by a member of the Dene Tribe of southwestern Canada. The adornment was made from dyed porcupine quills.
This rich tradition, of painstakingly working with the bark of the indigenous trees white birch and beechwood, has been passed down through multiple generations from when the tribal members built Birch Bark canoes for the French Fur trappers of the 1700s.
