Vintage wooden printing block from India, late 20th century. Wooden blocks like these were used to produce the hand-printing textiles for which India is so renowned items are drawn on paper then transferred to hardwood slabs then cut and carved by hand by a hammer and chisel. Each color applies to the cloth requires a separate block. Once the block become slightly worn causing the pattern to lose its Christmas then they are discontinued. These pieces can be used for hand printing on textiles paper or walls it also makes a beautiful decorative piece appropriate for display on walls, shelves, or table tops.
